Why You Feel Overwhelmed (Even When You’re Doing Everything Right)

Apr 06, 2026

There are days when I’m doing everything right—
the kids are fed, backpacks are packed, laundry is moving, dinner is planned…

…and I still feel like I’m behind.

Like I’m forgetting something.
Like I’m one dropped ball away from everything unraveling.

If you’ve ever felt that way, I need you to hear this:

You are not failing. You are overloaded.

🧠 The Real Reason You Feel Overwhelmed

Most moms think overwhelm means:

  • “I don’t have enough time”
  • “I need to get more organized”
  • “I just need to try harder”

But overwhelm isn’t a time problem.

It’s a decision problem.

From the moment you wake up, your brain is doing this:

  • What needs to be signed?
  • Who has practice?
  • Did everyone eat breakfast?
  • What’s for dinner?
  • Did I respond to that message?
  • Do we have clean socks?

And the hardest part?

No one else sees this list.

You’re carrying it alone.

😩 Why “Trying Harder” Doesn’t Work

For a long time, I thought if I just:

  • woke up earlier (because it's so easy to wake up before all the kids who already wake up at 6am when you also have a new baby at home🙄)
  • made better lists (anyone else feel like they tried all the planners and bullet journaling only to find that it became one more thing that HAD to be done every day?!🙋‍♀️)
  • stayed more disciplined

…I would finally feel on top of things.

But all I was doing was adding more pressure to an already overloaded brain.

Because here’s the truth:

✨You cannot outwork mental overload.✨

You can only reduce it.

💡 The Shift That Changed Everything

Everything started to change when I stopped asking:

❌ “How do I do more?”
…and started asking:
✅ “How do I decide less?”

That’s when I created something simple:

👉 A weekly reset

Not a full life overhaul.
Not a complicated system.

Just 30 minutes to get everything out of my head and into a plan.

⏳ My 30-Minute Weekly Reset

Here’s what it looks like:

1. Brain Dump (10 minutes)

I write down everything:

  • school forms
  • errands
  • one-off items I need to buy
  • cleaning/decluttering tasks I want to get to
  • books I want to read
  • podcasts I want to listen to
  • appointments I need to make
  • things I’ve been trying to remember all week

No organizing. Just clearing space in my brain.

2. Check the Calendar (5 minutes)

What’s actually happening this week?

  • practices
  • games
  • appointments
  • commitments
  • work calls
  • deadlines

Now I know what I’m working around.

3. Plan My Focus Blocks (15 minutes)

Not a perfect schedule—just direction.

  • What matters most this week?
  • What commitments cannot me moved or missed?
  • When will I run my errands?
  • When will I complete my necessary tasks?
  • What can wait?
  • When can I realistically focus?

🧘‍♀️ What This Actually Changed

When I do this, I don’t magically have fewer responsibilities.

But I feel:

  • clearer
  • calmer
  • more in control

Instead of spending my day wondering what to do…

I just start. No deciding in the moment. Just follow the plan.

And that shift?
It changes everything.

😔 What Happens When I Don’t Do It

Because let’s be honest… I don’t always.

And when I skip it, I feel it immediately:

  • I bounce between tasks
  • I waste time trying to decide what to do
  • I feel “busy” but not productive

I call it the drifty feeling (read more about it in my Weekly Reset post).

And it’s exhausting.

🌿 You Don’t Need a New System—You Need a Reset

If you’re overwhelmed right now, I don’t want you to:

  • reorganize your house
  • start a new routine
  • or try to fix everything at once

Start here: Give your brain a place to put everything.

💛 If this resonates with you, I made this freebie for you:

I call it The Gentle Weekly Reset

It walks you through:

  • a guided brain dump
  • a simple weekly overview
  • and a way to move forward without overthinking

No pressure. No perfection.

Just a small step toward feeling like yourself again.
